DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that Robert F. Mehmel, executive vice president and chief operating officer, has been named president and chief operating officer of the corporation. Mark S. Newman will continue to serve as chairman of the board and chief executive officer.

In making the announcement, Mr. Newman stated, "Bob has continually demonstrated his leadership skills and strong commitment to the company's growth. He has been instrumental in advancing the company's operations, merger and acquisition activities, and strategic initiatives. Mr. Mehmel, 46, joined the company in January 2001 as executive vice president, business operations and strategy, and was promoted to chief operating officer in May 2006. He has 24 years of experience in corporate operations, development, finance and strategic planning in the aerospace, defense and high-technology industries. Since arriving at DRS, Mr. Mehmel has placed emphasis on the implementation of internal and external growth strategies, and has been responsible for operational oversight of the company's four operating segments, including bids and proposals, research and development, capital investments, personnel requirements, environmental, health and safety activities, and facilities planning.
