Bayer AG said Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire the British developer of artificial intelligence imaging software Blackford Analysis Ltd. in a step toward boosting its radiology business.

The German pharmaceutical and biotechnology company said the aim is to develop and adopt AI within the clinical workflow to improve patient care. Blackford will continue to operate as an independent organization following the acquisition.

The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close later this year. It follows a development-and-license agreement between the two companies in 2020.

Financial details weren't disclosed.
