Successful accreditation by a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)-approved organization is one of a number of mandatory pre-requisites to being awarded a contract for the new CMS Competitive Bidding program for diabetic supplies and other DMEPOS, which is now due September 25, 2007. Accreditation is an activity where healthcare organizations submit to peer review of their internal policies, processes and patient care delivery measuring them to national standards.
