Air France-KLM has launched a tender to renew and grow its medium-haul fleet for its carriers KLM and Transavia, a spokesman from the airline group said Monday.

The company confirmed the tender after its Chief Executive Benjamin Smith said in an interview with Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad that it started talks with European plane maker Airbus SE and its U.S. rival Boeing Co. for the purchase of 160 single-aisle jets.

Air France-KLM--which is scheduled to release its second-quarter results on July 30--has greatly suffered from the coronavirus pandemic, booking hefty losses and bleeding cash, but capacity is picking up this summer as people crave for vacations and restrictions are easing.
